Salt Bath Boronizing of a Fe-Mn-Al System Alloy: Wear and Corrosion Evaluation
Fe-Mn-Al alloys have been studied with respect to their mechanical properties, behavior under oxidation, corrosion properties and phase transformations. In this study a Fe-Mn-Al alloy was produced using an induction furnace and bonded by salt bath immersion. Wear tests and potentiodynamic sea water corrosion tests were performed on samples with and without the boronizing treatment for the purpose of performance comparison. The boronizing treatment formed a high hardness layer on the sample and wear and corrosion resistance increased significantly.
