The Research of Two Different Sulphurizing Process of Tungsten Alloy with the Rare Earth as a Catalyst

In this paper, two different surface chemical thermal treatment processes - gas sulphring in high temperature and liquid sulphuring in low temperature, were used for sulphuriztion of high-density tungsten alloy. The rare earth elements were used as a catalyst in the two methods. The modem methods of analysis such as optical microscopy, SEM, EDS and X-ray diffraction were employed to analyze the micro-structure, morphology, and composition of sulphide coating. The differece between the two sulphurizing methods was compared, and the catalytic mechanism of rare earth elements during sulphurizing process also was analyzed. The results shown that: the 2H-WS2 self-lubricant composite coatings were successfully synthesized. The thickness of sulphid coating obtained from the gas sulphring process was generally in the range of 100 micrometers, and the other which used liquid sulphurizing was about 30μm.
