Optimization of Tribological and Fatigue Characteristics for Magnesium Alloy with DLC/FPB Combined urface Treatment

DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coated magnesium alloys have been expected as an ecological application in industrial field because of their light weight, easy recycling, low friction and excellent wear resistance. Investigation result showed that, however, DLC coating decrease fatigue strengths of rolled magnesium alloy. This paper describes investigation results of fatigue tests for DLC coated magnesium alloy ( AZ31B )in combination with FPB (Fine Particle Bombarding) surface treatment. As a conclusion, DLC/FPB combined surface treatment remarkably improve fatigue strengths of the rolled magnesium alloy. Consideration from view points of crack initiation and propagation based on microscopic fractography is also discussed.
