Size Dependence of Tensile Deformation Behavior in Thin Foils

A tensile test was carried out on the thin Al foils for the investigation of the size dependence of the mechanical properties of the materials with the thickness ranged in 10-100 μm. The variation of the mechanical properties including yield stress, elongation and maximum true stress with the thickness was examined. It is found that the relationship between Oy and t/d can better express the effects of the grain size and the thickness on the yield stress. A parameter of α was obtained to describe the relationship. The effect of the texture on the yield behavior is investigated.
