The Effect of Operation Number on the Transient Thermal Field of Sealed Electromechanical Relay

to better understand how the make and break operation number and duty cycle affect the temperature rise and its distribution of sealed relay, a new modeling space-filling-model is introduced in this paper which use one meshing model to simulate both close and open status. The result shows if the operation cycle is fixed, increasing the make and break operation number will make the temperature of relay become higher but finally reach to a maximum steady temperature, which is linearly increased with the rise of duty proportion. The duration to each maximum steady temperature is approximately constant no matter what the duty cycle is. The dominant heat source of relay is coil heat for the case of small switching current, but it is replaced by the contact resistance for the case of larger current.
