Fretting Behavior of PCB Contacts and the Influencing Factors
Contacts on printed circuit board (PCB) are frequently coated with flash gold plating of thickness less than 0.1 μm. PCB contact behaves different behaviors which is related to the surface morphology of PCB. One is that contact resistance retains low and stable during fretting duration, when fretting occurs at the valley area of PCB. The other is that contact resistance is low and stable at the beginning fretting cycles, then escalates up to the limited maximal value 1.511. This resistance behavior happens for fretting at the peak area of PCB. When height variance between peak and valley is controlled strictly, fretting behavior does not rely on PCB surface profile but on normal force and probe materials.
