A Method of Evaluating the Reliability of Series Systems

In order to evaluate the reliability of an object, a great deal of initial information relating to the reliability of the object must be obtained at first Diverse uncertainties may co-exist within the information, including the randomness, the fuzziness, the imperfect credibility, ignorance etc. However, the common evaluation methods at present can not dispose of diverse uncertainties at the same time, nor can they generally reflect the different natures of the uncertainties in the evaluation result. Therefore, an evaluation method based on D-S evidential theory was proposed to solve the issue above. The main features of the method were as follows. To construct a piece of evidence for each evaluation index of the object; and the results of the evaluation could be obtained by combination of evidence. Adequate pre-processing and post-processing were done as for the combination of evidence in order to avoid loss of information and ensure the rationality of the evaluation results. A reliability evaluation method for complex systems was proposed on this basis.
