The effects of the ratio of pipe diameter and aperture on fracture properties

An opening on steel pipe is very popular in engineering application and at this time the steel pipe has obvious fracture characteristics. To study on the effects of fracture properties about the ratio of pipe diameter and aperture, fracture tests were performed on twelve structural steel pipes with circular holes.Test indicated that initial crack started at the specimen surface of stress concentration, and extended along the direction of thickness and width. The extension direction of the cracks was perpendicular to the load orientation. The carrying capacity and plastic deformation of specimens decrease with the increase of the ratio of pipe diameter and aperture, the ductile coefficient is always small when the ratio of pipe diameter and aperture is small or large. The ductile coefficient get its max when the ratio of pipe diameter and aperture is located in a certain constant value.
