Effects of secondary dendrite arm spacing on mechanical properties of A357 alloy
The experiments were carried out to study the effects of secondary dendrite arm spacing (SDAS) on mechanical properties of A357 alloy such as ultimate tensile strength, percentage elongation and impact toughness in this investigation. The correlations between the solidification parameters and the SDAS were studied through metaliographic microscope and image analyzer. It shows that SDAS increase with decreasing of cooling rate. The correlation between SDAS and cooling rate and local solidification time of casting under the condition of nobake sand casting was obtained:SDAS=20.8tf0.3,SDAS=69.34v-0.3.The correlations between SDAS and ultimate tensile strength,SDAS and percent elongation and SDAS and SDAS and impact toughness were obtained:UTS=410.4-0.8SDAS,El=7.9-0.05SDAS and ak=40.92-0.33SDAS.
