Cracking simulation of the hydraulically ezpanded tubesheet
In this paper,a three dimensional finite element model was established for a hydraulically expanded tube-to-tubesheet joint.Expansion process was simulated which includes loading and unloading of the expansion pressure.Residual contact stresses between the tube and tubesheet were calculated and the induced residual stress distributions in the tubesheet were obtained. The possibility for the cracking of the tubesheet under the action of the residual expansion stress around the tube hole in the tubesheet was investigated in terms of the stress intensity factors. Results show that under the action of the residual expansion stress,a crack formed in the tubesheet always remains open and may be the mechanical reason for the tubesheet cracking along the tubesheet thickness or across the tube bridge.
