Remote Phosphor with an Array of Blue Light-emitting Diodes on a Board Used in Slim Backlighting for LCD Applications
Although slim thickness is of priority concern in TFT-LCD applications, the backlight module occupies the largest volume among other components. This work presents a novel backlighting configuration achieved by utilizing a remote YAG:Ce3+ phosphor converter with micro line lenticular arrays to accompany blue LED chips array on a board. Experimental results indicate that the proposed novel lighting configuration achieves a compact thickness of 9.5 mm, a high light radiation efficiency, low color deviation, and uniform luminance distribution. Additionally, the proposed configuration is also a cost-competitive alternative with a high manufacturing speed for mass production of slim LED backlighting.
