Controlled-Growth Technique for Patterned W18O49 Nanorod Arrays in Large Scale and Their Field Emission Behaviors

W18O49 nanostructures have attracted many interests due to their particular physical and chemical properties, but they are hard to realize the controlled growth in large area until now. We have successfully fabricated patterned W18O49 nanorod arrays on ITO substrate by thermal evaporation technique. They are identified as perfect single crystals with monoclinic structure and have a growth orientation of 010. Measurement results show that they have good field emission performances, such as a turn-on field of 4 V/μm, a threshold field of 7 V/μm, and emission uniformity more than 70 % through all the patterns, which suggesting that W18O49 nanorod arrays can be one of ideal cathode material candidates in future.
