Low-Cost High-Yield Superior Performance AIFF MVA LCDs
We review the progress and status on wide-viewing angle LCD, and follow with a report on the progress on our amplified intrinsic fringe field (AIFF) multi-domain vertical-alignment (MVA) LCDs. We successfully fabricated superior performance AIFF MVA LCDs with low-cost, high-yield, high transmission, high contrast-ratio, and wide viewing-angle for the small-medium and also large size LC TV applications. We eliminated all protrusions and ITO slits in both TFT and ITO substrates, without the need of special driving scheme. For the mobile LC multi-media applications, we had achieved a high transmission of 5.2%, contrast ratio of 800, superior wide viewing angles of more than 160-degree in all viewing angle zones, and fast response times of 16 msec. These performances are better than all current available MVA for the mobile LC TV and portable applications. For a typical LC TV application, we had achieved a high transmission of 5.1%, contrast ratio of more than 2000, super wide viewing angles of more than 170-degree in all viewing angle zones, and fast response times of 16 msec. We further achieved: (1) faster gray-gray response times without the over-drive technology, (2) faster touch mura, and (3) lower flicker and cross-talk in the row inversion driving schemes.
