Investigation on the electro-optical property of bent-core liquid crystal
The electro-optical property of bent-core nematics (BCN) in in-plane cell is investigated by optical phase retardation method. BCN exhibits optical biaxiality in the lower temperature range of the nematic phase and optical uniaxiality in the higher temperature range, and produces the different changes of optical phase retardation when an electric field was applied. Moreover, the dynamics of electro-optical switching in the biaxial nematic BCN shows that the decay time of the reorientation of secondary director is much faster than that of the principal director.
