Projection Screen Image Compensation for Pico-Projectors

Portable pico-projectors have become increasing popular over the past few years. They provide the convenience of allowing consumers to share videos and photos anywhere at anytime. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to find a perfect projection surface when one is on the road, which is a highly likely scenario when consumers would like to use their personal pico-projectors. When an image is projected on a non-ideal (for example, patterned) surface, the image might look distorted; hence the intended projection image might not be shown correctly. In order to alleviate the visual artifacts due to the imperfection of projection surface, we have created an algorithm which intends to modify the projection image that would adapt to the non-ideal projection surface. Depending on the information collected by camera modules regarding the projection surface, pixel value of the projection image will be modified accordingly. The non-ideal projection surface would appear to be hiding inside the modified image. As a result, the image quality of the projected image could be improved and look more pleasing to the eyes.
