Synthesis and Low-temperature Properties of New Difluoroozymethylene-bridged Liquid Crystal Compounds with Three Rings

In this paper, twelve kinds of difluorooxymethylene-bridged liquid crystals were designed and synthesized, that nine of them are new compounds(II). The molecular structure of these compounds were tested with IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, 19F NMR, MS and DSC. We also tested and analyzed the viscosities of such compounds at different temperature. It is found that they had lower viscosity and smaller temperature dependence at low temperature. End-group structures has a great influence on the viscosity in the correlative compounds. Such as the compounds with 3,4,5-trifluorophenoxyl group exhibit the lowest viscosity. The low-temperature viscosities of this type of three-ring structure compounds were lower than that of two-ring ester liquid crystal compounds. It is one kind of ideal liquid crystal compounds with great potential to enhance the twise nematic phase and to reduce response time of LCD.
