Monte Carlo Simulation Study on Steepness Factor γ of TN Cells
The steepness factor γ of TN cells has been studied by Monte Carlo simulations, using a lattice spin model, based upon the pair potential model which is spatially anisotropic and dependent on three elastic constants of liquid crystals. By Monte Carlo simulations and Jones matrix method, we get the electro-optical curves of TN cells and the director profiles in the middle layer at different values of k33/k11. It is shown that the curves of electro-optic characteristic are similar to that of the polar angle in the middle cell; the magnitude of k33/k11 will influence the steepness factor γof TN cells, the bigger the value of k33/k11the bigger the steepness factor γ, which is similar to the result obtained using the continuum theory. The magnitude of k33/k11 will also influence the polar angle in the middle cell, but it will not influence the twist angle in the middle layer.
