Improved Performance of Organic Light Emitting Devices Using Phenanthroline/ Cs2CO3/Al Cathode
In this study, a cathode with structure of phenanthroline (Bphen)/Cs2CO3/Al has been used in Tris-8-hydroxyquinoline aluminum (Alq3) based organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs). When locating a 5 nm Bphen layer at the interface between Alq3 and Cs2CO3, OLEDs perform much larger current. Here Bphen is used to further decrease the electron injection barrier, which has been confirmed by using ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy to test the electronic structure of the mixture between Bphen and Cs2CO3. Moreover, Bphen owns deep HOMO level and wide band gap, so that Bphen/Cs2CO3/Al cathode has a wide application in OLEDs emitting light with short wavelength.
