Estimation of hydrogeologic parameters by tracer and slug tests at petroleum contaminated site in Chuncheon, Korea

This study was carried out in a military facility that has used petroleum. The site was contaminated with the petroleum. Currently, soil and groundwater have been remediated with active methods including SVE in the study area. Tracer tests were conducted using 2 injection wells and 6 monitoring wells from July, 24 to August, 4 in 2008 to examine properties of the aquifer and to estimate transport of the contaminant. Bromide ion (Br) was injected in the injection well as a tracer. The difference of hydrodynamic dispersions of two wells in the alluvial layer was studied with the analysis of concentration breakthrough curves of bromide withdrawal time, and the estimation of Darcian velocity, longitudinal dispersivity, effective porosity. In addition, slug tests carried out 2 times at WA-09 on 2nd of October in 2008. Hydraulic conductivity of WA-09 well was 1.14×10-2cm/s, and the average linear velocity IW-01 well was 20 times faster than IW-02 well. Darcian velocity was estimated to be 4.8×10-4cm/s, and effective porosity was estimated to be 0.175. Longitudinal dispersivity was estimated to be 0.1 m. According to result of slug tests, the hydraulic conductivities were estimated to be 2.24×10-3 cm/s at test #1 and 1.63 ×10-3 cm/s at test #2.
