Molecular phylogeny based on the 16S rRNA gene of one arsenic-resistant bacterial strain isolated from aquifer sediments of Datong Basin, Northern China

High arsenic concentrations in groundwater and sediments at Datong Basin, Shanxi province have posed a severe threat to animals, plants and human beings. To provide the biomaterials for the following studies, a bacterial strain X56001 isolated from As-contaminated sediments. The results indicated the strain is Gram-negative, nonmotile and rod shaped. The strain X56001 has the 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity values of 99 % with Arthrobacter in the family Micrococcaceae, suggesting that the isolated strain was likely to belong to the genus Arthrobacter in the family Micrococcaceae.
