Removal of As(Ⅲ) and As(Ⅴ) from groundwater using magnetic nanonmeter-size iron ozides
A new and simple method for removal As(Ⅲ) and As(Ⅴ) in groundwater using magnetic nanonmeter-size iron oxides was reproted. The adsorption behavior of magnetic nanonmeter-size iron oxides towards As(Ⅲ) and As(Ⅴ) was investigated in detail. The adsorption efficiency(AE) was calculated by (C0-Cc)/C0×100, and AEs of As(Ⅲ) and As(Ⅴ) were over 95% in a wide range of pH 2 to 10. The pH and composition of the raw water remained unchange besides arsenic removal with magnetic nano-oxides. The desorption of As(Ⅲ) and As(Ⅴ) was observed with 0.5mol/L NaOH solutions. Kinetic test for the sorption of As(Ⅲ) and As(Ⅴ) on magnetic nano-oxides was performed, the sorption kinetic data can be described by the Lagergren pseudo-second order rate equation. The adsorption capacity of As(Ⅲ) and As(Ⅴ) onto the adsorbent was 13.21 mg/g and 15.77mg/g, respectively. The present study might provide new avenue to achieve the arsenic concentrations required for drinking water recommended by World Health Organization (WHO).
