PREPARATION OF MONODISPERSE BIODEGRADABLE POLYLACTIC ACID MICROSPHERES USING A SIMPLE MICROFLUIDIC APPROACH
Biodegradable and biocompatibility polymeric microspheres have wide applications in many fields, especially as carriers for drug delivery and form the basis of several therapies approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. This paper describes the preparation controllable and monodisperse microspheres from biodegradable and biocompatibility polylactic acid (PLA) using a single microfluidic approach. We have demonstrated that one could control the size of microspheres from 15μm to 150μm in size (polydispersity index < 5%) by altering the relative sheath/sample flow rate ratio. Polylactic acid microspheres are ideally potential carrier for drug delivery.
