ASSOCIATION OF ESTROGEN RECEPTOR A GENE POLYMORPHISMS WITH HEPATITIS C VIRUS (HCV)-RELATED LIVER DISCASE

Objective: To investigate the relationship between estrogen receptor α (ERα) gene polymorphisms and Hepatitis C virus (HCV)-related liver disease. Mehtods: PVUII and Xba I polymorphisms of ERa gene were analyzed in 100 healthy controls and 403 HCV patients including 93 asymptomatic carriers, 115 hepatitis, 105 cirrhosis and 90 hepatocellular carcinomas (HCC) by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) technique.Results- Pp genotype and Pallele genotype of ERa gene was over-represented in HCC patients as compared to carriers. Differences were more evident comparing HCC patients and carriers (57. 78% w41. 94%.), with a twofold risk of HCC for the Pp patients (OR:2. 33; 95%CI: 1. 03 5. 58; P: 0. 03) , and with ter-fold risk of HCC for the P allele patients (OR-.3. 37; 95%CI-. 1. 53 5. 95; P: 0. 01). No differences were observed for pp genotype, pallele and Xba I gene polymorphisms. Conclusion: Pp genotype and P allele of ERa gene may be related to liver cancer risk in HCV-infected patients in Jiangsu province.
