EXPRESSION ANALYSIS OF THE HIGH-AFFINITY NITRATE RANSPORTERS IN RICE:SPATIAL EXPRESSION AND REGULATION BY NITRATE

Expression of OsNAR2. 1 and OsNRT2 genes in rice were investigated in different nitrogen supplies by relative quantitative RT-PCR and promoter fusion with GUS reporter gene. The results showed that OsNAR2. 1 and OsNRT2. 1 were regulated up by nitrate but significantly down by ammonium. Further more OsNRT2. 2 was decreased by ammonium but not very significantly. It was clear that the responses of OsNRTZ. 3a to nitrate and ammonium were different from OsNRT2. 3b, even though they were, basically to say, regulated by a same promoter in genomic sequence. And OsNRT2. 4 was mainly expressed in shoot not in root. The expression patterns of two OsNAR2s and four OsNRT2s promoter-GUS showed wide variation in different rice organs. In the end the possible function and regulation mechanism of OsNAR2. 1 and OsNRT2s was discussed in this paper.
