ISOLATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF DEGRADERS FOR SYNTHETIC DETERGENT IN WASTEWATER

Linear alkylbenzene sulphonate (LAS) , a kind of anionic surfactant is widely used as one of the major ingredients of synthetic detergents in both domestic and industrial applications. While the LAS pollution is an increasingly major health problem, the research on the biodegradation characteristics in the indigenous microorganisms in wastewater ecosystem is deadly needed. In this paper, the sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS)-degrading bacterium named SDBS1 was isolated with the SDBS as the sole carbon source. The morphology and molecular biochemistry character of SDBS1 were explored. It was shown that SDBS1 is short and straight and the length of SDBS1 is about 8 μm. The strain belongs to the proteobacteria branch of the domain bacteria (γ - proteobacteria) , burkholderiales, burkholderiaceae, burkholderia cepacia.
