Design and Development of Micro Stirrer Used with Catheter for Dissolution Cerebral Thrombus
The cerebral stroke is due to a thrombus formed in a blood vessel, which blocks the blood flow in the brain and induces a brain cell necrosis. A quick treatment on dissolution of thrombus with low risk of brain hemorrhage is requested. In this study, we concentrate on how to design a high performance micro-stirrer to dissolve the thrombus. Hie piezoelectric actuator is selected and discussed because it has both the functions in sensing and actuation and has high power comparing to its size. Further a new type of micro-stirrer is designed for generating high amplitude vibration and its motion can be controlled easily by adjusting the input signals to the actuators. Several types of micro-stirrer were manufactured based on the FEM simulation results and the effect on dissolution was validated by experiment.
