Study on Dispersion of NiO Particles in Ethanol

The stability of suspension affects electrophoretic deposition (EPD) to a great extent. To coat NiO on carbon fibers by EPD, stable NiO suspension should be produced firstly. In this study, the influences of dispersant type, disper-sant dosage, ultrasonication time and pH value on dispersing NiO in ethanol were discussed. The dispersion effect of NiO suspension was characterized by absorbance. Proper process conditions of dispersing NiO particles in ethanol were obtained as follows: poly ethylene glycol (PEG) was used as the dispersant, dispersant content was 3 wt%, ultrasonication time was 20 min, and the pH value of the suspension was 6. The results indicated that NiO particles were well dispersed in ethanol under these conditions.
