Preparation and Luminescent Properties of YAl3(BO3)4:Eu3+
The red phosphor single phase yttrium aluminoborate doped with Eu3+ was prepared by the nitrate salts thermal decomposition method at relatively lower temperature than a conventional solid sate reaction method. The pure phase YAl3(BO3)4 have been obtained when the calcination temperature is up to 900℃ . The phosphor was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and luminescence spectra. The results show that YAl3 (BO3)4.Eu3+ belongs rhombohedral system, with space group R32. The Y ions are replaced by Eu ions in view of their similar sizes and valence state. The Eu3+ ions are non-centrosymmetric sites in YAl3(BO3)4 : Eu3+ . In emission spectra, the strongest peak at 618nm correlating to red emission under 394nm monitoring wavelength is due to the forced electric dipole transition 5D0→7F2 of Eu3+ ions. The phosphor YAl3(BO3)4:Eu3+ have excellent color purity. The crys-tallinity and luminescent intensity is enhanced as the increase of the calcination time and calcination temperature. The luminescent properties of the samples with 10 mol% doping concentration of Eu is optimal. The quenching concentration is more than solid state reaction (from 8mol% to 10mol% ). The particles are uniform multilayered tabular crystal and distributed within a narrow size range.
