Preparation of Aluminum Pigments Encapsulated by Polyacrylate and SiO2 and Their Application in Coating
In order to promote anti-corrosion of aluminum pigments and enhance their compatibility with resin, double-layer coated aluminum pigments were prepared by first encapsulating vinyl activing SiO2 through sol-gel method, and secondly coating with polyacrylate by in-situ polymerization. The encapsulated aluminum pigments were characterized by means of FTIR and SEM. Subsequently the stability of coating films containing PA/SiO2/Al pigments in acid aqueous media, the gloss of films, the dispersion and adhesion of PA/SiO2/Al pigments in resins were characterized by anti-corrosion test, gloss meter and pulling-off test respectively. The results demonstrate that uniform and compact SiO2-polymeric films have been formed in the surface of aluminum pigments. The anti-corrosion of encapsulated aluminum pigments and their compatibility with resins are improved remarkably.
