Study of Micro-emulsion Polymerization Mechanism by Particle Size Growing Process
The styrene-acrylic emulsions were synthesized by microemulsion method using styrene, butyl acrylate and methyl methacrylate (APS as initiator and MS-1 as surfactant). The effects of reaction parameters on particle size and polydispersed index (PDI) were studied. Emulsion particles grew with the conversion, and became smaller as concentration of surfactant and initiator and reaction temperature increased. Furthermore, the paper focused on the mechanism of microemulsion polymerizations. The most possible nucleation locations of latex particles were at micelles and microemulsion droplets.
