Study on Pre-treatment and Particle Size of Titanium Hydride Powders Used as Foaming Agents of Al Foams
The pre-heating treatment and particle sizes of titanium hydride (TiH2) powders were investigated symmetrically. Pre-heating treatment was indispensability for the production of P/M Al foams due to the reduced mismatch between the Al melt point t and decomposition temperature of TiH2 powders. Particle sizes of pre-heated TiH2 powders with pre-heating treatment were not varied. The colors of pre-heated TiH2 powders varied with the pre-heating temperature and annealing time. At all DSC curves of the powders measured in argon, the endothermic peaks were observed significantly. The position of endothermic peaks changed with the pre-heating treatment temperature and particle size of TiH2 powders. Pre-heated TiH2 powders at 530℃ for an hour and particle sizes named M and S are more suitable for manufacturing P/M Al foams.
