DYNAMICS OF TMD WITH MAGNETIC COUPLING

The dynamic character of tuned mass damping (TMD) with magnetic coupling device, which consists of an electrical system coupled magnetically to the mechanical structure, and that works by transferring the vibration energy of the mechanical system to the electrical system, is analyzed in this study. The damping effects of this system under different coupling parameters are obtained by using harmonic balance method. The reduction of the response amplitude of the mechanical system of the TMD with magnetic coupling is compared with that without magnetic coupling. The result shows that the TMD with magnetic coupling not only have good hold effective, but also its stroke is reduced. The instability issues which limit the performance of the device are also studied. The effects of the coupling parameter on the bifurcation structures are found and the quenching of mechanical chaotic vibrations will take place by choosing appropriate coupling parameters.
