DYNAMIC RESPONSE EVALUATION OF BASE-ISOLATED CANTILEVER STRUCTURE
The paper presents an analytical formulation of cantilever beam supported on flexible support which appears as the laminated rubber bearing (LRB). Cantilever beam is modeled based on Euler- Bernoulli beam theory and it is subjected to harmonic base excitation. The base isolator is modeled as a linear elastic-viscous model with effective horizontal stiffness and effective damping. Modal analysis has been carried out for evaluating the response such as displacement at the tip of cantilever and relative displacement of isolator with respect to base. The close form solution for mode shape of coupled structure is evaluated and effect of isolator characteristic on mode shape is studied. A parametric study is also performed for various values of isolator damping for harmonic base excitation.
