Theoretical Analysis and Ezperimental Study on Thermal Reduction of Calcined Dolomite with Al-Si-Fe Ternary Alloy

Study on the possibility of Al-Si-Fe ternary alloy used in place of ferrosilicon as reducing agent of the Pidgeon process, producing magnesium and comparison with the reduction effect of the two above-mentioned reducing agents. Thermodynamic analysis and experimental study showed that Al-Si-Fe alloy could replace ferrosilicon as reducing agent of vacuum thermal reduction of magnesium from calcined dolomite; the new reduction method obtained higher magnesium vapor pressure in reduction process and decreased reaction temperature.
