Effect of Carbon Content on Plasma Nitrocarburising Characteristics of AISI304 Austenitic Stainless Steel
The AISI304 austenitic stainless steel with different C2H2 content was Plasma nitrocarburising, Then, the cross sections morphology, components analysis , phase composition and mechanical properties of the steel specimens after plasma nitrocarburising were tested with Metalloscope, Glow discharge spectrometry, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and microhardness tester. The result showed that plasma nitrocarburising process can offer high-quality γC and γN phases simultaneously at low temperature and the maximum N and C content in the layer are in the different depth. The thickness and the hardness of the modified layer reach to maximum when the C2H2 content is 3%.
