Laser in-situ Reaction Cladding of Titanium boride/titanium Composite on Titanium Substrate
An antiwear cladding layer was produced on Titanium substrate by YAG laser with mixed powders of Ti and TiB2. A good surface morphology can be obtained easily by both a lower or higher laser energy density beam with a lower or higher addition of TiB2 respectively. T1B2 and Ti have reacted to form TiB or Ti3B4 during cladding for 50:50 molar ratio of TiB2 to Ti, and the structure of cladding layer is consisted of a course surface layer composed of Ti and TiB and a fine interface layer composed of Ti and TiB(or Ti3B4). The micro-Vickers hardness of the cladding layer is significantly higher than the substrate.
