Adhesion Characteristics of an Epozy Coating on Different Substrates
Adhesion is one of the important properties to evaluating organic coatings corrosion protection property and it is also important to study interlayer synergy effect for multi-layer coatings. In this paper, an epoxy coating was applied to carbon-steel, high velocity arc spraying (HVAS) aluminum coating and HVAS Zn-Al-Mg-RE (RE-Rare Earth) coating, respectively. After the organic coating solidified, artificial defects were introduced in the epoxy coating. Then, the samples were exposed to 5wt% NaCl solution and adhesion quality of the epoxy coating was monitored by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). After EIS testing, microstructure of corrosion products around the artificial defects was observed by SEM and crystal grain dimension of Zn-Al-Mg-RE coating corrosion products was studied by XRD. EIS testing results indicated that adhesion quality of the epoxy coating on the Zn-Al-Mg-RE coating was best Different microstructure was observed around artificial defects for different systems. There were nanometer corrosion products in Zn-Al-Mg-RE corrosion products, and its crystal grain dimension was between 10nm and 30nm.
