Effect of sintering parameters on friction wear behavior of graphite/copper composites
Graphite/copper composites had been prepared successfully with graphite/copper composite powders by way of mechanical milling, pressing, vacuum hot pressed sintering and hot extrusion. With dry friction wear testing, making use of such means as electronic balance, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), effect of such vacuum hot pressed sintering parameters as temperature, time and pressure on friction wear property of graphite/copper composites had been investigated. The results show that by heightening sintering temperature, prolonging sintering time and raising pressure of vacuum hot pressed sintering, friction coefficient and wear rate of composites are reduced. The main wear mechanism of composites is exfoliation of mechanically mixed layer or subsurface materials induced by ploughing of the counterface.
