Synthesis of high Tezture Orientated Ni-Co-Fe2O3 Composite Coatings by Electrodeposition

The preparation of Ni-Co-Fe2O3 composite coatings deposits has been performed with the surfactant (cetyl trim ethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB), or sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate (SDBS)) in Wattss bath on a red copper substrate. The influence of the surfactants (CTAB and SDBS) on the texture and morphological characteristics of the deposits have been investigated. The experimental data shows that the presence of surfactants affects the nickel deposition process. XRD results indicated that (111) plane was the preferred orientation in coatings without any surfactant; while the main preferred orientations for coatings formed in solutions with SDBS or CTAB were (200) plane and (111) plane respectively. And the value of texture coefficients of Ni electrodeposited changed with the surfactants concentration in the bath. SEM results revealed that the surface morphology of the electrodeposits with (111) texture obtained at 0.08~0.12g/L CTAB addition appeared mainly in pyramid like shape, and texture with (200) at 0.08~0.12g/L SDBS addition appeared in different shape. The obtained results led us to conclude that the Ni deposits prepared in the absence of surfactants and in the presence of SDBS have a higher grain size than the ones obtained in the presence of CTAB.
