Reverse Engineering for the Variability Design of Offset Spoilers in High-speed Train

As the important components of the high-speed train, offset spoilers affect the appearance of the bodywork, but also directly impact on the aerodynamic performance of a train. In this paper, through the research on Reverse Engineering for the offset spoilers of high-speed train, authors present a reverse method to support the variability design for offset spoilers. By edit ing the point clouds and constructing curves based on the point clouds, collected by API leaser tracker, in Imageware software, the offset spoiler model was rebuilt by applying independence geometry of Pro/E. The model can be modified easily in accord with latter requirement, which is able to support the improved and innovative design. The method for supporting the variability design makes up the defect of model by traditional reverse engineering that the model can not be modified.
