Comparative Analysis of Technology Innovation Activity of Large and Medium-Sized Enterprises in China
In this paper, we study the technology innovation activity of large and medium-sized enterprises (LMEs) in China from the comparison of three perspectives: the industry the enterprises belonging to, registered type and region of the enterprises located. Based on a panel database of more than 20 thousand LMEs in China from 2004 to 2006, the percentage of research an d development expenditure in total sales revenue has been compared to identify the characteristics of the technology innovation activity of LMEs. The finds are concluded as follows: first, the technology innovations activities of LMEs in China remain relat ively stagnant or even slow down slightly from 2002 to 2006; second, LMEs demonstrate different characteristics in technology innovation from different observation perspectives; third, LMEs exposes particular problems in technology innovation activity. Pol icy recommendation suggest that government should attach great attention to the industries which are lack of technology innovation activity, encourage the indigenous innovation activity through policy inclination and financial supporting, protecting intellectual property right and propagating technical education..
