Technological Innovation and Technology-Intensive Manufacturer: A Case Study of CSR
To improve its technological level, China South Locomotive & Rolling Stock Co rporation Limited (CSR), a technology-intensive enterprise, desires to set up a complete technological innovation system and execute flexible innovation strategies. The pattern of technological innovation in developing countries and a thorough review of technological development history of Chinese rail transportation equipment manufacturers are examined. The technological innovation system of CSR is analyzed through the paradigm of ― innovation portfolio‖. Two ma jor areas for improvement are identified based on the study results. Suggestions are discussed for the innovation system of CSR including combining technological innovation and organizational innovation, integrating technology strategy with business strategy, strengthening the cooperation with univers ities and research institutes, and setting up strategic technology alliances with technology-advanced companies. Suggestions for the innovation strategies of CSR are promoting more technology innovation on manufacturing key vehicle parts and accessories and improving the capability of system integration.
