Technology Imitation, R&D Game between MNCs and Host Enterprises

Based on product differentiation theory, taking the informat ion industry as an example, this paper establishes the competitive duopoly game Hotelling model to investigate R&D competition game between Multinational Companies(MNCs) and host enterprises, and the influence of technology imitation or spillover on technological innovation model. This paper finds technological innovation model of MNCs is closely related to network effects, compatibility of products and technology spillover level. Conclusion shows: Manufacturers should implement a differentiated strategy, and weaken price competition; The R&D investment of MNCs and host enterprises is alternative; R&D in vestment and the probability of success are proportional to R&D productivity. Switching costs become the market threshold of MNCs winner takes all .
