Researches on Harmonization of Bank Regulations and Financial Innovations
The ongoing financial crisis originated in a relatively small segment of the U.S. financial innovation market-namely sub-prime residential mortgages has significant impact on the slowdown of global economy and threatens systemically important banking institutions and financial markets. The crisis has pushed several national governments to review the architecture of financial sector regulations and puts forward the subject on how to harmonize bank regulations and financial innovations. This paper outlines the links between bank regulations and financial innovation and highlights some suggestions for policy makers. Bank regulations should keep pace with financial innovations through much more scientific methods and instruments, while financial innovations should weigh risks whose economic burden should be bearable within the systemic bank regulations and traditional effective regulation principles and measures.
