Function Design for Search Engine on “Personal Search History--Based on the theory of Knowledge Architecture
Although Personal Search History is the important information for search engine users, it is not stored and used well. This paper starts with the experience of general users to find and analyze problems, further investigates users subdivision, selects teachers in universities as the representatives of knowledge workers to analyze their demands. Base on the theory of cognition viewpoint, knowledge architecture and man-machine interface, we present function design recommendation of Personal Search History by complete storage process of effective search event, management of retrieval expression, annotation and Visualization, which can also can support of personal knowledge architecture. Search engine refers to a system that automatically searches information on the Internet that provided to the users for inquiry after being sorted out, and it has become an indispensable tool in searching network information resources. Personal search history, the search engine users important information, is the original record of the users search activities, including visiting time, retrieval expression, website address as well as retrieval result and so on. At present, academic research on personal search history are still on the simple model and theory research stage. Greg R. Notess in the article of Tracking your search history compares the historical data search function provided by Google, Amazon, Ask Jeeves, Yahoo; Susan Dumais et al. based on the project of Stuff Ive the Seen, through a unified index of all types of information help users to reuse the rich contextual cues in the historical data; Micro Speretta & Susan Gauch stresses on the research of data collection method based on the user retrieval behavior; Bin Tan et al. study statistical language modeling based methods to mine contextual information from long-term search history and exploit it for a more accurate estimate of the query language model; Anita Komlodi et al. are Anita Komlodi et al. have the largest amount of published papers in this topic domain, its main research is the user behavior theory and the man-machine interface design. Making a good management of such information can enable the service providers to know the users interests and preferences and carry out personalized service, which is also conducive to saving memories for the users, convenient for reusing and sharing search strategies. The commercial database and e-commerce website have offered applications in search history for decades, like commodity recommendation. Although all the existing search engines provide users the function of managing Personal Search History, the rate of utilization of such services is not high. Whats the reason? How to improve? In his paper, we take teachers in universities as the survey objects, starts with the users experience to find and analyze problems so as to make further suggestions.
