Fractal geometry and architectural Design

A creative method for supporting computer_aided architectural design was presented in this paper, which relied on the L-system, shape grammar and the space surface equation theory. By the computer program, various building grounds, building bodies and building domes with fractal characteristics could be generated in a short time, in the end the results were sent into the database, Using the database model, it could not only assist the designers when they are lacking of the inspiration, but also accumulate knowledge through the expansion of the database. A building was successfully formed by the designers by selecting some building grounds, building bodies and building domes. With the development of society and improvement of peoples living standards, market competition are becoming more and more intensely, the concept of consumption in society are constantly changing. Products creativity, appearance, pleasantness, and environmental factors are paid more and more attentions to, making it more and more important in competence. In this increasingly competitive information era, in order to capture the market, the new designed products should be brought out and the old ones be weeded out. Innovative design, a modern designing approach which meets the development of present society, aims to design new models to suit functional, visual and aesthetic needs. Its essential character is innovation. In product innovation, time is the ultimate resources; it is difficult to meet the fast-growing market demand only rely on peoples designing. Therefore, exploring a way to display computers superiority, establishing an environment that support innovative design for the designers, has become the need of social development. In view of this, this article introduced a newly fractal-based architectural designing method, expecting to effective solve the problems exist in domestic construction designing. At present, a kind of innovative featured, computer-aided architectural design method is urgent needed, especially in our province, which has very few local characteristics architectural design. Taking this into consideration, applying fractal design to construction areas, especially in the field of innovative design, can achieve a lot which traditional designing method can not obtain. Besides that it has the role of enriching researching scope, conducting the non-linear science and engineering to cross-study.
