Study on Dynamic and Static Bending Properties of LVL
There are many factors that affect the mechanical properties of laminated veneer lumber (LVL), such as the compression ratio, the wood species and the density of LVL. In this paper, three different nondestructive testing (NDT) methods and the static bending test were conducted on the poplar (Populus davidiana Dode) LVL. The NDT methods included the longitudinal transmission method, longitudinal vibration method and flexural vibration method. The effects of the compression ratio on the Youngs modulus of LVL were investigated. And the correlativity was also investigated between the dynamic Youngs modulus and static MOE. The values of the dynamic Youngs modulus by using the NDT methods were larger than that of the static MOE by using the static bending test. And the values of dynamic Youngs modulus obtained by using the longitudinal transmission method were the largest in all tests. But the correlativity between the dynamic Youngs modulus obtained by using the out-plane flexural vibration method and the static MOE was best in all test results.
