A New Multi-rate Filtering Algorithm for Octave Frequency Analysis of Nonstationary Vehicle Noises

A new multi-rate filtering technique for sound octave frequency analysis, so-called MRF- OFA, is presented in this paper. Sample noises of an accelerating vehicle are measured and denoised using the binaural recording and wavelet denoising techniques. A multi-rate filterbank combined by a set of low-pass and band-pass filters is deliberately designed for nonstationary sound octave analysis. The MRF-OFA algorithm is performed to estimate the sound pressure level (SPL) of the vehicle noises. Verification results suggest that the newly proposed MRF-OFA is accurate and effective for octave frequency analysis of nonstationary vehicle noises. In applications, it may be extended to other sound related signal processing in engineering.
