Microwave Nondestructive Testing in wood
Recently, there has been much interest in applying Microwave nondestructive testing (MNDT) to measure the wood physical properties is reviewed. Free space microwave measurement system is used to measure dielectric constants and loss factors of wood in the frequency range of 8 - 12 GHz. It is possible to determine properties of wood using microwave scanning techniques. Moisture content variation of wood using microwave nondestructive testing at 8 to 12 GHz was studied. A millimeter-wave imaging technique was used for nondestructive detection of termites. Finally the technical challenges and developing prospect of MNDT in wood are discussed.
