The Comparison of Region Labeling Algorithms in Vehicle Automatic Detection Technology

The vehicle automatic detection technology based on machine vision and image processing is an important part of intelligent transportation system, while the region labeling algorithm is the key technology of automatic detection process. There are two typical region labeling algorithms: run length algorithm and chain-code algorithm. In practice, the effect of two algorithms are different when face the different detection tasks or complicated environment. In this paper, we analyze the performances of region shape, connectivity, region concavo-convex and conglutination at three kinds of detection task: bodywork, license plate and emblem of vehicle, compare the complexity and veracity between these two algorithms. At last, we discuss the parameter design of two algorithms in different light and traffic condition.
